Life in a Smarter Small Home
The Amarco townhouses have been designed after years of intensive research and design by the architect Brett Blacklow. Unlike most houses, these have been designed to fit around standard dimensions of the materials used. There is thus no need to cut materials on site: the design has been created so that materials can be simply fitted into place. Savings on offcuts are very significant. Overflowing builders’ skips don’t happen with these buildings.
Other savings flow from this: less onsite work means lower expenses for tradesmen and materials plus much faster construction time.
Savings start right from the ground. These townhouses don’t need expensive excavation, foundations or concrete slabs. They’re built using the long-established screw-pile system which means that the foundations of the building are complete in just half a day. Similar innovations employed in every phase of building construction have resulted in a house that costs less to build, buy, run and maintain.
A great deal of thought has been given to the flow of air into and through the buildings and to the effect of the Australian sun on the lives of its occupants. These are houses that belong to their environment. They do not seek to fight or control it by costly air-conditioning or heating.
A host of thoughtful innovations is at work in these buildings, starting with the master switch at the front door to control all appliances that have a stand-by power mode. Flick the switch off as you leave home and you’ll save money while you’re out. Other switches in the townhouse indicate when off-peak power is available, helping you to control how much you spend on electricity. The smarter houses of Amarco will save at least $1000.00 per year in electricity costs.
There’s much more to tell about the homes at Amarco, here’s a very brief summary of their features and advantages.
